Invasion!

Just last week, I was marvelling at the fields covered in bright green parakeets in Quinta de los Molinos, which is a beautiful park in the north-east of Madrid, on the way to Barajas airport. There were multiple groups of 40 or so, contentedly feeding on the rough grass, all around the park. I've become used to seeing them in London parks over the last few years, but never in such quantities. Then today, I came across numerous news articles such as this, published in the last few days, about how this species of bird is "invading" Madrid and threatening the ecosystem. After seeing so many of them all in one place, I don't doubt it. But still, you can't deny they're more beautiful to look at than your average pigeon.
